I am happy to have this week’s Tuesdaytales Judgemasters take over:
Writer of fantasy with a purpose, editor of almost anything,
professor of English, wife to an amazing husband and mommy to an adorable daughter.
@WakefieldMahon – This short piece can be viewed from so many angles. The layers of emotional, psychological and of course paranormal factors are interesting. Is she real? A manifested memory? A ghost? Then there is the question that we all ask ourselves “Can we ever forget or forgive some of the most life changing/horrific/emotional moments of our lives? Can we move on?” In the white space at the end I kept feeling there was an echo from the prom girl – “Why should I?” A haunting piece to say the least.
What You Remember
By Wakefield Mahon
“You’re being difficult.” Robert sighed, running his fingers through what remained of his gray hair.
“The word you are looking for is recusant.” Amanda half-smiled. “Funny the things you remember. Anyway you’re not my father. Don’t tell me what to do!”
“Listen my grandchildren are coming over and you frighten them. Please go.”
She smoothed out her blood stained prom dress “I’m not leaving until my date gets here.”
Robert wiped a tear from his eye. “I did. It took me years to get over the accident but I’ve moved on and it’s time for you to do the same.
