“Some Indo-European conglomerate. Lots of Italian suits and incomprehensible accents.”
Fireworks started above the Needle. I focused, ignoring the flashes of color.
“Wind is 15 from the northeast.”
I adjusted my position, slowly exhaled, and pulled the trigger. Noticed only by his bodyguards, Ambassador Michel slumped to the pavement.
“Target is down,” I said.
“Time to toast the New Year, my friend. Think we’ll get to keep our jobs?”
“I’ve heard some talk of layoffs.” I drew a silenced 9mm and shot my former partner between the eyes. “Budget cuts, you know.”
